The 1950s saw plenty of cowboys play the hero on television and movie screens. But cowgirls found their heroine in Annie Oakley.
And now we offer many of those wholesome and classic Annie Oakley westerns on budget-priced DVDs.
“Annie Oakley,” starring Gail Davis in the title role, brought fictionalized tales of the famed western sharpshooter to syndicated television. A total of 81 episodes aired from 1954 to 1957, although reruns were broadcast on Saturday morning well into the mid-1960s.
The show co-co-starred Brad Johnson as Deputy Sheriff Lofty Craig and Jimmy Hawkins as Annie’s little brother, Tagg. Here’s an excerpt of the pilot episode:

One special feature with the set is a biography of the show’s star, Gail Davis.
The real Annie Oakley was born Phoebe Ann Morris in Ohio in 1860. She rose to fame as a sharpshooter and a performer with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show. Her most famous shooting trick was repeatedly splitting a playing card, edge-on, and putting several more holes in it before it touched the ground while using a .22 caliber rifle at 90 feet. Oakley died at age 66, but her fame endures — especially with the long-running musical “Annie Get Your Gun.”
We offer a variety of other western videos, including Tex Ritter, Zorro, Red Ryder, the Cisco Kid, and more.
